Innovation is at the heart of what we do at Creating the Difference. In 2016, Creating The Difference launched a product called That Wow Factor TR. This product was the first in a line of products designed to alter bowling ball performance, without altering the surface of the bowling ball.
Check out this video of That Wow Factor TR
This product was used during competition. In 2019, rule 18 regarding using bowling ball cleaners during competition was changed. This rule change allowed a bowling ball cleaner to only be used before and after competition. This rule change effectively removed That Wow Factor TR from the Creating the Difference product line. As it has to be applied every shot.
Urethane vs Reactive
In bowling a major difference between Urethane and Reactive bowling balls can be summed up by simply saying: Urethane bowling balls don't absorb oil. Reactive bowling balls do.
Watch this video to see why.
Take a look at the above picture. You will notice, the image is showing a microscopic view of two types of coverstocks. A Urethane Purple Hammer on the left and a Reactive Storm HyRoad on the right. Notice the black (dots) holes on the Reactive ball that are spread out across the image. These are the pores in the Reactive coverstock that absorb oil. A true Urethane ball, like the Purple Hammer, does not have pores to absorb oil. If you want to know more about Urethane and Reactive coverstocks watch this video from USBC.
"We have a current list of traditional Urethane balls which would be the initial “Urethane-Like” balls. If any of these are greater than 78.0HD and made since 8/1/22 they would be legal for PBA National Tour competition after 1/1/2024 (all balls on the list made after 8/1/22 are legal for the rest of this 2023 PBA season). For the future, we would test any new ball for oil absorption and anything greater than 45 minutes would be considered “Urethane-Like.” Any ball in the Urethane-like category would then need to be a minimum of 78.0HD. New polyester/plastic balls will mostly likely fall into this category as well, but should have no issue being above the 78.0HD minimum. Any new ball with an oil absorption of less than 45 minutes would then fall into the standard category and be allowed to utilize the 73.0HD minimum. New balls in this category will need a unique identifier, like a pin or marking on the ball."

Here is more education on hardness, specifically with new 78D hardness Urethane bowling balls made in response to the PBA rule change.
CtD has been working with its development partner Turtle Wax to work on creating a product for bowling that would stop or minimize oil absorption in order to create a Urethane type performance out of any Reactive ball. We also wanted the ability to remove this performance attribute when so desired. This type of product would allow bowlers to get more performance options out of their existing equipment, and more specifically help bowlers who struggle with too much hook due to:
After working with Turtle Wax's Research and Development team. We were able to develop our most revolutionary product to date.
This product is a semi permanent gloss that has the ability to stop or slow oil absorption in any Reactive bowling ball. This product changes ball reaction drastically and can make your Reactive ball perform just like Urethane. The altered performance is designed to last 6 to 9 games when done on a ball spinner or 3 to 6 games when done properly by hand. This product can be completely removed by using TruCut Sanding Pads. It is an easy to use liquid that provides a durable bonded polymer coat on the surface of the bowling ball.
There is a proprietary combination of coating technologies combined that provide a durable pore penetrating shield on the surface of the bowling ball. TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax has four unique attributes on a bowling ball.
You can see from the image below of a bowling ball that has been treated vs one that hasn't. The treated ball literally repels lane oil and can cause it to bead up.
Important Note
This product is not designed to provide a high shine to a bowling ball and it is NOT a wax. It's primary purpose is to alter bowling ball performance. If you are looking for a high shine appearance please look at our TruCut Hand Applied Polish PLUS Powered by Turtle Wax product.
TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax is a thin liquid and is not thick like a polish.
The Performance of TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax
TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax provides increased skid through both the front and middle portions of the lane. While significantly decreasing the backend performance when added to ANY bowling ball. This is why we recommend sanding the ball with a TruCut Sanding Pad like 500 grit FIRST before applying TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax. Using a higher base surface grit can make a Reactive bowling ball go much straighter. Expect to see about 5-10 boards less hook, depending on the type of bowling ball used and how you throw the bowling ball.
How to Use TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax
In order to create a Urethane performance from any Reactive bowling ball follow these steps.
Before using TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax your bowling ball should be cleaned with CtD's Life After Death Bowling Ball Cleaner Plus Life Extender, using a TruCut Scuff Mark Remover if needed.
Using the CtD Bowling Ball Spinner:
1. Sand the Reactive bowling ball using a 500 Grit TruCut Sanding Pad and TruCut Conditioner on 4 sides. You will only need to go one pass on each side with a TruCut 500 grit pad. Watch this video on how to sand your bowling ball on a ball spinner
Note: Using non TruCut sanding pads may result in a non desired result and inconsistent performance. This is highly not recommended.
2. Shake the bottle well before using the TruCut Gloss.
3. Apply a half dollar size amount to the Microfiber side of a CtD BAM Pad or CtD Power Pad.
4. Using a up and down motion on 4 sides of the bowling ball go for 20 seconds per side. Each time you change sides apply an additional half dollar size amount of TruCut Gloss. This ensures that multiple layers of protection are applied.
5. You will notice the ball will begin to feel slick to the touch. This is an indication that the product has been applied. You MUST however USE 2 HANDS to remove the ball from the spinner.
6. Wipe the ball dry with a clean CtD Power Pad or CtD BAM Pad.
7. IMPORTANT: Do not use any other bowling ball cleaner on your ball to wipe the ball off other than CtD Life After Death. Using other products can reduce the effectiveness of the TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax.
8. For maximum durability allow the ball to sit 30 mins before use.
If you prefer to have the ball go straighter, use a higher base grit like TruCut 1000, 1500, or 2000. For maximum straightness, have the base grit at TruCut 2000, 3000, 4000, P5000D on a ball spinner. Then polish the ball with TruCut Hand Applied Polish PLUS and finally follow it with TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax.
If you are interested in watching how the application process works, watch this.
This is what will happen if you do not put surface on your ball before using TruCut Gloss. Plus a little trick using That Wow Factor HM.
WARNING
USING THIS PRODUCT WILL MAKE YOUR BOWLING BALL FEEL SLICK. YOU MUST USE TWO HANDS TO PICK UP THE BOWLING BALL EVERY TIME.
FAQ
How long does this product last on the ball and can it be removed?
TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax lasts 6 to 9 games when used with a ball spinner or 3 to 6 when applied properly by hand. It can be removed by using a TruCut Sanding Pad.
What happens if I do nothing to my ball after the 9 games? What is the shelf life of TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax?
The life span is 5 years for unopened products when kept at room temperature. Do not let this product freeze as this will drastically shorten the shelf life. Normal life span is around 1 to 2 years when opened.
If I sand TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax off will my Reactive ball absorb oil like normal?
Yes, as long as you use TruCut Sanding Pads the ball will return to its original absorption rate and performance properties. You need to use at least a TruCut 2000 grit pad to remove all of the TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax as it does penetrate and bond to the surface of the ball.
Can I still wipe my ball off after every shot?
Yes, it is highly recommended that you use the CtD BAM pad to wipe the ball off after every shot. This will remove oil buildup, and not remove the TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax.
Can I clean my ball off Before and After competition? How often do I need to reapply TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax?
It is recommended to reapply every 6 to 9 games to ensure maximum consistent performance and longevity.
Is this product USBC Approved?
USBC doesn't approve products like TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax. They have looked at it and have told us they do not have an issue with it. You CAN use a ball treated with TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax in USBC competition. But, you CANNOT apply this product during competition. It can only be applied to your bowling ball before and after competition.
Is this product PBA Approved?
Similar to USBC the PBA doesn't approve products like this. They are aware of it and do not have a issue with it.
Can TruCut Gloss be purchased by itself?
At this time, TruCut Gloss is only available in a kit. The smallest kit offered for TruCut Gloss is an 8oz Bottle of TruCut Gloss and a 500 Grit TruCut Sanding Pad
Will my treated ball create carry down similar to a Urethane ball?
Sort of. This product is designed to make your ball behave like Urethane. That means carry down is possible. However a major difference here is that most Reactive balls on the market tend to flare much more than the current true Urethane balls. You can verify this by looking at the Differential core numbers. This means you may not experience the same amount of carry down as traditional Urethane bowling balls.
Surface Change:
All bowling balls experience surface change through use. A bowling ball will naturally migrate from whatever finish it is at. To a surface that is 4700 grit. The further away from this ending grit a ball is, the faster it will migrate towards it. Reactive bowling balls will migrate faster than a true Urethane will. Knowing this makes it important to understand that surface change can impact the ball reaction as well. So keep up with your bowling ball surface. If you want to find out what your actual surface is. Take a look at our CtD Surface Scanner.
If I apply multiple coats on the ball will that enhance the impact of the product?
Yes this product can be layered on itself.
Is this product like RainX, Car Wax, Finesse-It or any other bowling product?Do I have to sand the ball to TruCut 500 grit?
No, but that is the most effective way to get a Urethane shape performance out of your Reactive bowling ball. The higher the base grit used the straighter the ball will go. Have you ever seen someone using a polished true Urethane ball? The answer is No and there is a good reason for that. 🤣
If that doesn't make sense watch this?
Can I use this on a Urethane Ball?
Yes and it will dramatically increase the length of a Urethane ball.
Can I use it on a plastic ball?
Yes if the desired reaction is straight this is a great product to use on a plastic ball or spare ball.
Does this product change the hardness of a bowling ball?
No, there is no impact to hardness when using this product.
Can you use this product by hand?
Yes, you can add a 500 Grit TruCut surface to the bowling ball then you can apply TruCut Gloss Powered by Turtle Wax using a CtD BAM Pad or CtD Power Pad by hand and let sit for 30 mins before use. This type of application will last 3 to 6 games. It is recommended to use a spinner to ensure even coverage and to get the longest lasting results possible of 6 to 9 games.

Purchase Jacked Continuous Motion Performance HERE
Since 2015, Creating the Difference has been at the forefront of revolutionizing bowling ball performance. Our line of immersion-based products started with the debut of our pioneering product, The Clear. This unique formula acts as a detox, extracting absorbed oil and dirt to restore your ball's performance.
Driven by a spirit of innovation, we've not only mastered restoration but also transformation. In 2022, we introduced AMP'D, an immersion performance enhancer tailored for reactive bowling balls. AMP'D enhances the backend reaction, giving your ball an Angular Ball Motion Shape without altering its surface. Watch this video to learn more.
In 2024, we're introducing a game-changer that focuses on the midlane, ensuring superior continuation through the pins.
Meet Jacked Continuous Motion Performance Enhancer, fortified with Tackify.
Building upon the success of AMP'D, Jacked takes performance to new heights. Unlike its angular counterpart, Jacked centers on the midlane, specifically focusing on the continuous ball motion category.
Learn more about the 4 types of Ball Motion here.
For an in-depth understanding of Jacked and what it can do for you, watch this video.
Witness a significant surge in performance from the midlane all the way through the pins. This is Continuous ball motion—the most coveted of the four motion types for its enduring effectiveness.
Tackify, a polymer additive, not only boosts performance but also extends the lifespan of your reactive bowling ball. When used as directed, Jacked also repels dirt, keeping your ball cleaner for longer.
This product is not a bowling ball cleaner.
When should you use Jacked?

Why would I pay over $100 on a product like this? Why not just go buy a new bowling ball?
Jacked can change the reaction of ANY reactive bowling ball and make it more continuous. The best part is that Jacked is reusable. Here are the top 3 situations where you can use Jacked.
So instead of spending $200+ a bowling ball you don't like PLUS $200+ more to buy another ball to replace that ball, why not give Jacked a try!
What's difference between Jacked and AMP'D?
Check out what people have to say about Jacked!
How to use Jacked:
Step 1: Prepare your bowling ball surface with TruCut Sanding Pads or TruCut Hand Applied Polish PLUS Powered by Turtle Wax.
Step 2: Prior to immersion, clean your bowling ball with Life After Death and a TruCuT Scuff Mark Remover. A clean ball is imperative.
Step 3: Position your bowling ball in the provided bucket with the thumb hole up (or fingers up for no thumb bowlers) for easy removal.
Step 4: Slowly pour Jacked around the ball until it's an inch away from the thumb or fingers, depending on orientation.
Step 5: Soak the ball for a maximum of 1 hour.
Step 6: Use a CtD Absorption Pad to remove any surface oil and dirt. Discard the pad after use.
Step 7: Gently lift the ball from Jacked and place it on a ball cup. Allow the ball to sit for 10 minutes to absorb any residual liquid. Apply That Wow Factor HM to remove phasing. Repeat if needed. The process is now complete.
For those not phased by temporary whitening (phasing) that may occur 10 to 20 minutes post-treatment, the process is complete. This phasing actually helps repel dirt, keeping your ball cleaner.
Step 8: Carefully pour JACKED back into the gallon jug. DO NOT LEAVE JACEKD IN THE BUCKET.
For those not phased by temporary whitening (phasing) that may occur 10 to 20 minutes post-treatment, the process is complete. This phasing actually helps repel dirt, keeping your ball cleaner.
Step 9: Wipe off any excess liquid with a clean towel.
FAQ:
1. How does Jacked differ from The Clear?
- The Clear is designed for basic de-oiling, while Jacked enhances midlane performance. Use The Clear for restoration, followed by Jacked for Continuous Motion Shape.
2. Why does my reactive ball turn white sometimes after use?
- As the ball absorbs Jacked's polymers, they interact with the ball's plasticizer, resulting in a cloudy appearance. This indicates improved performance and a longer ball life.
3. Do I need plasticizer in my bowling ball?
- Yes, during the ball's formation, plasticizer creates pores. A small amount remains, preventing the ball from drying out. However, excessive plasticizer can hinder performance. Tackify in Jacked enhances performance.
4. How often can I use Jacked?
- Jacked is safe after every set, with recommended use every 30 to 50 games for optimal impact.
5. Does Jacked alter my ball's surface?
- No, Jacked does not change the ball's surface. Surface alterations should be done prior to immersing the ball.
6. Do I need to do anything after treatment?
- Complete all surface changes before using Jacked. Any whitening will fade on its own. Use That Wow Factor HM for appearance concerns. For dirt, clean with a bowling ball cleaner like Life After Death.
7. Does Jacked change the ball's hardness?
- No, Jacked does not affect the ball's hardness.
8. Will it damage the core if it gets wet?
- No, Jacked does not compromise the core's integrity.
9. Will it affect my grips or thumb slug/interchangable?
- No, Jacked does not impact glue, grips, slugs, or inserts.
10. Will my ball gain weight?
- A negligible gain of less than 1/100 of a pound can occur. This does not affect the ball's weight integrity.
11. Does Jacked work on Urethane or Plastic balls?
- It won't affect their performance but will keep them cleaner for longer.
12. What if my ball is already Continuous. Do I still need Jacked?-
-Jacked is for all reactive bowling balls. It will increase the mid lane performance all the way through the pins on any ball regardless of the designed ball motion shape. So yes you should use it even on balls that are already continuous or traction or angular.
13. Can Jacked be reused?
- Yes, it can! The key with being able to reuse Jacked, is using a CtD Absorption Pad to remove dirt and oil that come to the surface. Without using an Absorption Pad, Jacked becomes contaminated. Contamination is the number one way to ruin the performance impact of Jacked.

For the most accurate scan possible, Version 3 scanning technology requires taking measurements from at least six locations on a bowling ball. This is to fully capture any irregularities in surface profile that can happen even with brand-new balls off the factory line – averaging multiple readings leads to an optimal result!
If you want to gain a better insight into bowling performance, tracking the change in coverstock on your ball is key. Scanning every five frames and ensuring the surface of each scan is properly wiped clean will allow you to accurately monitor how quickly it approaches "Stable" or 4700 grit - this being its eventual end point where the surface will no longer change. Knowing exactly how fast your ball's surface changes can go some way towards understanding lane transitions when bowling; as both elements are constantly shifting against one another over time. To combat such fluctuation, having multiple balls at similar surfaces may help slow down that alteration for achieving increased scores!
Upgrade to Version 3 with ease! Our soon-to-be launched blog will provide you step by step instructions for a hassle free transition. Plus, click the link here for exclusive insight on surface scanners.

Research Companies and Their Programs
The first step in getting on staff with a bowling company is researching the companies and their programs. You want to find out which companies are currently offering staff positions, what kind of positions they’re looking for (e.g., recreational bowlers, tournament players), and what the requirements for each position are. Make sure that you meet all of the requirements before applying! Understand some companies may take staff applications differently than others so be sure to do your research on how they would like you to apply.
REMEMBER: You should not apply to a company with the ONLY goal being to get a free product. You should apply to a company that you truly believe in and a company whose products you use and can promote.
Reach Out to Companies
Once you’ve done your research and identified which companies might be a good fit for you, it’s time to reach out! Send emails or direct messages to the companies introducing yourself and expressing your interest in joining their team. Be sure to include any relevant information such as tournament wins, awards, or anything else that might help you stand out from other applicants. Be sure to include some footage of you bowling as well. You should also include contact information so that they can easily reach out if they have any questions or need additional information from you.It is good to reach out to bowling companies, but remember to have patience when getting in touch. They could be looking at hundreds of applications at any given point so double messaging/emailing them will only slow down or even end the staff application process for you.
Develop Your Brand
In addition to reaching out to companies directly, it’s important that you also start building your brand as a bowler. This means creating social media accounts like Instagram or Twitter where you can post about your successes in tournaments, feature bowling balls in videos, share photos of your gear (make sure it’s from the brands you want to work with), and provide helpful tips for other bowlers who may be interested in following your journey. The more followers and engagement you have on these platforms, the better chance you have of being noticed by potential sponsors!
REMEMBER: Most bowling ball companies are trying to sell equipment. If you do not have the ability to market their equipment on social media in a positive light you may not be chosen.
Getting hired by a bowling company isn't easy—but it's definitely possible if you put in the work! Start by researching different companies and their programs; then reach out directly with an introduction email or DM; finally develop your brand through social media accounts like Instagram or Twitter. With dedication and hard work, there's no limit to how far your career as a bowler can take you!

]]>You've tried the rest, now try the best! If you’re a bowler, you know that having a clean bowling ball is essential to your game. An extremely dirty bowling ball can affect the consistency of your ball reaction, which means you won’t be able to achieve the highest scores possible. To keep your bowling ball clean and performing at its best, you need to find a cleaning product that works for you. One of the most popular cleaners on the market today is Life After Death, a cleaner designed specifically for bowling balls. Read on to learn more about why this product is so effective at keeping your ball clean and helping you achieve higher scores.
How It Works
Life After Death is both a bowling ball cleaner & life extender. It works differently from any other ball cleaner on the market to remove dirt, oil, and other residue from the surface of your bowling ball. The unique formula helps break up these particles so they can easily be wiped away with a CtD BAM Pad. This ensures that no matter how much dirt has built up on your ball, it will quickly and effectively be eliminated. For a deeper clean, Life After Death can be combined with a TruCut Scuff Mark Remover to clean the dirtiest bowling balls.
What Makes it Special?
In addition to being an effective cleaner, Life After Death also leaves behind a protective barrier that helps keep dirt and grime from building up again in the future. This makes it easier for bowlers to maintain their equipment over time and not have to worry about large amounts of dirt sticking to the surface. The tacky surface left on the bowling ball will help you get the most out of the clean ball!
Durability
One of the most important qualities of any sanding pad is durability. With regular use, it's easy for a lesser quality pad to become worn down or not cut accurantley. Fortunately, TruCut Sanding Pads are designed with superior craftsmanship in mind and can withstand wear and tear better than other brands. TruCut Sanding Pads are specifically designed to be used on bowling balls to give you an accurate finish.
Reliable Surface Finish
When it comes to bowling, having the right amount of surface is also essential. Too little surface can cause your ball to slide off target while too much surface can make your ball read to early and not go through the pins correct. Fortunately, TruCut Sanding Pads allow you to know exactly what surface is on your bowling ball when applying a fresh surface.
Variety
TruCut also offers a variety of options when it comes to finding the perfect pad for your bowling style. You can choose from different levels of grits so that you always have exactly what you need when out on the lanes. Plus, if you ever need help deciding which type of pad is best suited for your needs, our knowledgeable staff will be happy to assist!
At Creating The Difference we pride ourselves on providing only the highest quality products available on the market today. That's why we recommend TruCut Sanding Pads for all bowlers—they provide superior durability, reliable surface finish and variety so that you always have exactly what you need out on the lanes! So don't wait any longer—order your own set of TruCut Sanding Pads today and experience the difference they make in your game!

]]>The Benefits Of Cleaning Your Bowling Ball Regularly:
When you clean your bowling ball regularly, you help to keep it in peak condition. This means that it will perform better when you’re out on the lanes, allowing you to more strike than ever before. Regular cleaning also helps to prevent dirt and grime from building up on the surface of the ball which can become difficult to get off. Additionally, keeping your bowling ball clean will help to make the ball motion more consistent, giving you better control over your shots.
Cleaning Methods That Work:
There are several methods that can be used to effectively clean a bowling ball. We recommend Life After Death Bowling Ball Cleaner Plus Life Extender, our most popular ball cleaner to date. Some bowlers choose to create their own cleaning solution. DO NOT DO THIS. Mixing chemicals can be dangerous for you and the chemicals that are used may be harmful to your bowling ball. Once you have chosen a Creating the Difference ball cleaner of your choosing, simply follow the instructions on the bottle on how best to apply it.
Maintaining Your Bowling Ball Over Time:
If your looking for a great way to manage the surface of your bowling ball, we recommend the CTD Surface Management Kit & TruCut Hand Applied Polish PLUS By Turtle Wax. In addition to regular cleaning, there are other maintenance tasks that should be done in order for your ball to remain in top condition over time. One such task is polishing which helps restore shine back onto the surface of your bowling ball after multiple uses. Additionally, over time your bowling ball will lose performance, look at products like The Clear to help restore performance in your old bowling ball. If any of these tasks seem daunting, don’t worry, all of the tasks listed above are easy to complete! If you have a little bit of a larger budget, and like to do things yourself check out the TruCut Surfacing System Advanced.
Keeping your bowling ball clean is an essential part of maintaining its performance levels while out on the lanes but it doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming! By following some simple steps including using specialized cleaning solutions and bringing an old bowling ball back to life, bowlers everywhere can ensure their balls stay in peak condition for years of enjoyment on the lanes ahead! So what are you waiting for? Get out there now and get started on keeping your game sharp with regular maintenance for maximum results!
]]>If you’ve been bowling for a while, you know that there’s nothing quite like the feeling of having a clean and shiny bowling ball. But over time, wear and tear can take its toll on your prized possession. Fortunately, restoring your polished bowling ball is not only possible – it’s relatively easy to do. Let’s break down the process.
Gather Your Supplies
The most important part of restoring your polished bowling ball is gathering all the right supplies. You will need a 2000, 3000 and P5000D TruCut Sanding Pad, a CtD Power Pad or BAM Pad, bowling ball cleaner like Life After Death or That Wow Factor Ball Cleaner, and TruCut Hand Applied Polish Plus Powered by Turtle Wax. Please see our recommended kit here.
Add the Surface Base
Using your 2000 grit TruCut sanding pad, apply the 2000 grit sanding pad to your ball. Follow this with 3000 grit then P5000D. We recommend using TruCut Conditioner as well to make your sanding pads last longer! Take care not to use too much force as this could damage the sanding pad as well as the surface of the ball itself. Your goal here is to achieve a 4000 grit base so you are able to polish the ball.
Polish Away!
Next, apply some polish directly onto a CtD Premium Polishing Pad and begin buffing it into the surface of your pearl bowling ball in slow circles until you can see a glossy shine beginning to emerge on the surface. Be sure to apply the polish to the entire surface of the bowling ball. Check out our new TruCut Hand Applied Polish Plus Power by Turtle Wax. Once you have completed polishing the bowling ball, simply clean off the excess polish with Life After Death or That Wow Factor Ball Cleaner and a CtD Power Pad or BAM Pad.
And there you have it! With just a few simple steps, you can easily restore that beloved polished bowling ball back to its former glory without ever having to leave home (or breaking the bank) – happy polishing!

Creating the Difference has a history of coming up with innovative products and then improving upon them over time. In 2019, we introduced a bowling ball restoration product that worked like a detox. It was called The Clear Performance Accelerator. This product was designed to improve total hook and revive old, dead bowling balls. In 2020, we made another product called Level Up which was a CtD staff exclusive. This product again focused on improving total hook in a bowling ball. In 2021, that product was followed up by Level Up Remix which was available to everyone. These products continued to push the envelope in restoring or improving performance.
As manufactured bowling balls have been forced to increase hardness, the performance of these newer bowling balls has begun to decrease; more specifically the backend hook is decreasing. We wanted to work on a solution to that problem and now have a new product called AMP'D or Angular Motion Performance Enhancer. This product is designed to increase the backend hook of a bowling ball. It features our proprietary additive Tackify; which is a liquid polymer that replaces Plasticizer found in reactive balls with a material that makes them perform more aggressively. AMP’D also has the chemical additive that allows the ball to resist dirt and scuff mark build up.
AMP'D works in 4 powerful ways:
This product is different from the past performance enhancing products that focused on total hook. AMP’D is all about adding backend performance.
It is a bowling ball soak which takes up to one hour to have maximum benefit. It can be used multiple times and has no impact on bowling ball hardness or surface change. Soaking your ball in AMP'D can cause phasing (lightening of the bowling ball). Here is a comparison of two balls showing the difference in phasing. The ball on the left has phasing (whitening) the ball on the right does not.
Phasing is moisture mixing with the plasticizer, and absorbing into the coverstock of the bowling ball. This is harmless to the bowling ball, has no impact on performance, and in fact can happen when a ball is manufactured like the picture below or when a ball is exposed to extreme temperatures.
The phasing will go away on its own with use in most cases. If you want to remove phasing at any time simply spray the ball with That Wow Factor HM and wipe off. You will remove the phasing; but, you will also remove the microscopic layer that helps keep dirt and oil from sticking to the ball. We would recommend following up after using That Wow Factor HM immediately with Life After Death bowling ball cleaner to restore that protective layer. You can also dip the ball back into the AMP’D product and wipe it off. Then follow it with Life After Death for even more protection and benefit.
One thing to note is that AMP’D is not required to be wiped off after each soaking treatment. Instead you can let it sit on the ball after you remove it and it will absorb into a reactive ball within 5 to 10 mins after removal.
Immediately after removal and 5 mins after removal
Just remember to follow it with Life After Death Bowling Ball Cleaner + Life Extender for best results.
AMP'D should be done in one hour increments to achieve the maximum effect. It enhances backend performance and doesn't create early hook. AMP'D has the proprietary Tackify additive that is important for longevity and performance.
AMP'D increases oil absorption as the picture below shows. The ball on the left was not treated and the ball on the right was treated with AMP'D showing the increase in oil absorption.
AMP'D comes in two different kits basic and professional.
The AMP'D Complete Kit contains
Before using AMP'D do any surface adjustments, sanding or polishing.
HOW TO USE AMP’D
Step 1: Prepare your bowling ball with the desired surface using TruCut Sanding Pads or TruCut Hand Applied Polish Powered by Turtle Wax.
Step 2: Clean the bowling ball using Life After Death, That Purple Stuff or That Wow Factor Ball Cleaner.
Step 3: Place your bowling ball into the supplied bucket with the thumb hole up (if you are a no thumb bowler, place the fingers up)
Step 4: Pour AMP’D slowly around the bowling ball until the liquid is an inch away from the thumb (or fingers).
Step 5: Wait one hour.
Step 6: Using a CtD Absorption Pad, remove any oil and dirt that may have come to the surface. Discard the absorption pad after use.
Step 7: Carefully remove the bowling ball from AMP’D and set it on a ball cup. DO NOT WIPE IT OFF.
Step 8: Wait 5-10 minutes for the ball to absorb the liquid.
If you do not mind the phasing, proceed to Step 9A. If you want to remove the phasing proceed to Step 9B and Step 10.
Step 9A: Spray Life After Death on the bowling ball to add an extra layer of benefit and protection. Your process is complete!
Step 9B: Spray That Wow Factor HM on the surface to remove phasing. Repeat as needed.
Step 10: Use Life After Death to restore the protective coating on your bowling ball. You can also dip the bowling ball back in AMP’D and wipe it off immediately after you take it out. Spray and wipe down with Life After Death.
FAQs
How long does AMP'D last?
The treatment will last about 50 games. If regularly cleaned with Life After Death, the treatment will last about 75-80 games.
Does AMP'D impact hardness?
No AMP'D doesn't impact hardness up or down.
How much backend performance is typical using AMP’D?
Our testing across different brands has shown an average increase of 3 to 5 boards in backend performance.
How is this product different from The Clear or Level Up Remix?
The Clear is more like a detox for your bowling ball. It works by restoring total hook to dead or worn out bowling balls.
Level Up Remix works by increasing midlane reaction which turns into total hook as well.
AMP'D is designed to increase backend reaction and not midlane. It can be used when more backend reaction is desired. It works on brand new bowling balls whether they are sanded or polished.
How Much AMP’D is absorbed by the ball in one hour?
A bowling ball will absorb around 0.066 lbs. This is not enough weight to notice or feel and AMP’D doesn’t impact grips, glue, or thumb inserts.
Is the Tackify in AMP’D the same that is in Life After Death?
AMP’D features the same Tackify that is in Life After Death but in a higher concentration.
Will AMP'D work on a Solid, Pearl, or Hybrid bowling ball?
Yes. AMP'D will work on any reactive coverstock bowling ball and will improve backend performance on any surface.
Will AMP'D make my Traction (early hooking) bowling ball react like an Angular (late hooking) bowling ball?
The change is noticeable in the backend part of the lane. This would make a traction ball become more continuous in shape.
Can AMP’D be used for more than one hour?
Yes, but you should take the ball out and retreat it one hour at a time.
Here is one more video showing the benefits of the new AMP'D product on a used bowling ball:
AMP'D is safe for plumbing and can be discarded down the toilet when dirty.

Click here to order the Limited Edition CtD 3+1 Premium Tournament Roller Bag
Creating the Difference has been innovating in bowling bags since its first 4 ball roller bag in 2020. This slim line roller tote bag featured a detachable 4th ball that could be added on when needed with a 3 ball bag built for airline travel.
In 2021 we took the slim line design concept, improved the quality of the materials and added a retractable handle to the bag.
These changes made the bag best for league or tournament play. We also sold a backpack to go along with the bag to allow people the option to carry accessories and shoes.
For 2022 we have overhauled the design. Now we have a 3 + 1 Premium Tournament Roller Ball Bag. We started with a premium big roller bag and integrated a fully removal and innovative backpack that can be used to hold an additional ball when moving lanes. The backpack has multiple compartments to it and a removable accessory bag. This design concept came after studying how bowlers actually use their bag during leagues and tournaments. Most Bowlers do not want to continue to go back to their bag in a tournament situation when you have to move pairs. They also have a removal accessory bag when bowling leagues and place it in the settee area. So why not address that problem with a solution? A lot of the large bowling ball bags have pockets all over the place on the bag. Our research found that most of the pockets aren't used because they are attached to the bag. This creates issues because a big bag has to be placed out of the way during leagues or tournament play. Our new design has solved that problem. It can also be a problem trying to carry 70+ pounds in and out of the car. With the removable Backpack you can carry three balls in the main bag, and then wear the backpack with the 4th ball in it. This is another advantage this bag provides over the competition.
The Limited Edition CtD 3+1 Premium Tournament Roller Bag
The ball in the picture is not included with the bag but the accessory bag is. The bag dimensions are 30 inches by 11 inches by 21 inches tall. The bag holds three bowling balls with its ABS molded base. It has three molded ball cups built in the base and between these cups are foam dividers that help protect the balls from damage. The bag has a clear window on the back to help identify the balls that are in the bag. The rest of the bag is covered in strong 1680D Nylon for durability. It features 5 inch urethane covered wheels with steel ball bearings for a smooth roll on any terrain. There are two handles on the ends of the bag for easy maneuvering in and out of a vehicle. The bag also has an extending handle that makes the total length 41 inches, and it can retract to become flush mounted to the base.
The innovative backpack is held on top of the bag by four clips and a heavy duty attached strap. The backpack is 23" long by 9" wide. This keeps the backpack slim line but highly functional. It features a large main pocket for shoes. This pocket can hold up to a size 15 shoe as well as some accessories. The backpack also has a unique deeper pocket that is 30% larger and comes with a second accessory bag. This bag is perfect for additional accessories, tournament supplies, or even holding personal belongings like keys. The removable accessory bag can be stored in either the main compartment or the deeper pocket it comes in. The deeper pocket is also big enough to hold a bowling ball. This can allow you the ease of taking a spare ball to the next pair of lanes during a tournament.
The bottom of the backpack features four anti-skid feet and the shape of the backpack allows it to remain upright on its own. This keeps the profile as low as possible and out of the way enough to be in the settee area.
NOTE THE BACKPACK WITH A BOWLING BALL IN IT IS ONLY DESIGNED FOR TRANSPORTING A BOWLING BALL OVER SHORT DISTANCES. IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE ATTACHED TO THE BAG WITH A BALL IN IT.
DO NOT ATTACH THE BACKPACK WITH A BALL IN IT TO THE BAG.
Failure to follow these instructions will void your 180 day limited warranty. Click the product to review all of the warranty details. This bag is a limited edition in the steel gray color.

Click Here to Purchase the CtD Mini Portable Fan
Since its founding in 2015, Creating the Difference has launched several products for bowling balls including Life After Death and TruCut Sanding Pads. Now, we want to focus specifically on the bowler. Over the last ten years, portable fans have become one of the most popular accessories bowlers carry around for themselves. When looking at these fans, we found a big issue: many fans are massive and not really practical for carrying from lane to lane or even into the bowling center; especially when pulling two roller bags filled with bowling balls.
Creating the Difference is always looking to innovate and provide bowlers with tools to help them. In this case, we want to help them stay cool and comfortable while bowling. Introducing the Creating the Difference Mini Portable Fan. With the launch of this product, we wanted to address the issue of keeping your hand dry and your body cool, when needed in a bowling center.
The Mini Portable Fan is compact in size, measuring only 5 inches. It is small enough to fit into any bowler's backpack. While the Mini Portable Fan is small in size, we did not want to sacrifice power. It offers the choice of three fan speeds: low, medium, and high. The high setting is strong enough to be felt from more than six feet away. The fan also features a USB cable port to allow a continuous charge with a portable battery (not included) throughout league or tournament play. It can also be powered by 4AA batteries (not included) for wireless operation. The fan features a built-in timer with 1, 2, or 4 hours of run time, if needed. The fan head features a 90° tilt which allows a wide range of options to place it in the correct position. The fan comes in black with the neon green CtD logo on it.

]]>Click Here to Purchase the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover Ultra
In 2019, CtD introduced the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover to the bowling industry. This product was designed to aid in cleaning a bowling ball which had hard to remove scuff marks on it. It was paired with So Fresh and So Clean, a bowling ball life extender, and That Purple Stuff, a bowling ball cleaner. This combination went on to become a game changer for bowling ball cleaning. The tough to remove black belt marks were now under attack. Click here to watch how we cleaned Kyle Sherman’s bowling ball; which could be considered one of the dirtiest bowling balls ever.
The biggest drawback to this method was that it was a multi-step process. In 2022, we introduced Life After Death, a new type of bowling ball cleaner and life extender all in one. Once Life After Death was paired with the Scuff Mark remover, it made cleaning a dirty bowling ball much faster. In fact, Life After Death and a TruCut Scuff Mark Remover will clean a bowling ball better than any other ball cleaning method we have tested to date. Much like how we found a way to improve bowling ball cleaners from That Purple Stuff to Life After Death, we have now found a way to make the scuff mark remover even more effective.
Introducing The New TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA
This product features a much more durable, bowling ball friendly version of melamine foam. Melamine foam is commonly called a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. We have taken that material and paired it with our Green Wave Technology. This technology helps the product resist breaking for improved durability.
It also is improved with the all new TruCut Stable Grit sanding pad added to one side. This can be used for heavy duty cleaning. This side will remove the most stubborn surface scuff marks or grime extremely fast when used with Life After Death.
This diagram will explain the differences between the two products.
The TruCut Stable Grit sanding pad scans at 4700 grit, which is high enough not to dull sanded balls; yet aggressive enough to quickly and efficiently remove all types of belt marks, ball return marks and grime from your bowling ball. Use this product in conjunction with Life After Death which will clean AND protect your ball from dirt buildup for the next time you bowl.
How efficient is the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA?
Watch this video of us cleaning 2 different balls.
The white side of the Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA is perfect for cleaning and not altering the surface of a polished ball.
Here are some things to remember when using this product on a bowling ball:
NOTE:
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT WITH ANY BOWLING BALL CLEANER other than Life After Death or So Fresh and So Clean. Bowling ball cleaners can harm or destroy the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA or greatly alter the surface of your bowling ball.
Directions for use.
Spray Life After Death liberally on the entire surface of the chosen side of the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA. It is recommended to use 20 to 30 sprays to cover the entire pad thoroughly. Failure to do so can result in prematurely wearing out the pad and/or altering the surface of your bowling ball. The pad WILL NOT work dry.
Next Spray Life After Death on the top half of the bowling ball you are working on.
Let it sit for 30 seconds and then use the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA and rub that entire half of the ball.
Flip it over and repeat the process. Wipe the entire ball off with a CtD BAM or CtD Power Pad until completely dry.
You are now all set and ready to go with a clean and protected bowling ball.
FAQ
Can I use So Fresh and So Clean with the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA?
Yes, you can but you will also need to use a bowling ball cleaner like That Purple Stuff afterwards to remove the residual So Fresh and So Clean as it is not a bowling ball cleaner and is only a bowling ball life extender.
How long will the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA last?
When properly used, this product can clean more than 50 bowling balls. Remember to avoid going over holes or grips as that can damage, and shorten the life of the pad. It is also imperative to make sure that you are using the pad while thoroughly wet with 20 to 30 sprays over the entire pad.
Can I use the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover ULTRA dry?
You should NOT use this product dry for any reason. It will accelerate the wear of the pad and will not work properly to clean your bowling ball. It MUST be used with Life After Death or So Fresh and So Clean.
Can I clean the TruCut Scuff Mark Remover or ULTRA?
Yes! Watch this video:

Whether you choose to upgrade your scanner with the video or by reading this blog. Follow each item step by step. This is crucial to updating your scanner correctly.
If you prefer not to read, please watch this video
The first step for upgrading is to download the three files needed to perform the upgrade. Those files can be found by clicking the link here. You will need to download these individually. GQC6 is the file that contains the driver to let the scanner connect to your computer and will be used to calibrate the scanner. sc6531_RTC_HG60S_CTD366_20220813.pac is the file that contains the actual upgrade for the scanner. SPD_Upgrade_Tool_R26.21.2801 contains the program we will use to apply the upgrade file to the scanner.
Once those files have been downloaded, you will need to unzip both the GQC6 and SPD_Upgrade_Tool_R26.21.2801. Go ahead and make sure your USB is plugged into your computer but unplugged from your scanner.
The first file we will open is the GQC6 you just unzipped. You will go into the folder and run the setup_en program. This will begin the download of the GQC6 program and driver for the scanner. You might get a popup saying that “Windows is Protecting Your Computer”. If you click the “More Info”, this will let you click “Run Anyway” and proceed with the install. When going through the install, you can leave everything default except for two settings. You will need to check the option to “Create a Desktop Icon”. After the install is complete, you will need to uncheck the box to “Launch Program”. We will end up using the program later.
The next step will be to open the SPD_Upgrade_Tool_R26.21.2801 folder that was unzipped. Within this folder, you will look for a file called Upgrade Download. Its icon has two green arrows pointing down towards a computer chip.
Before opening, you will want to ensure the USB cable is plugged into your computer but still unplugged from the scanner. Open the program and click the gear on the left side of the screen. Here you will select the sc6531_RTC_HG60S_CTD366_20220813.pac file that you downloaded.
When selected, you will see some text appear. Once you see that text, you are free to plug your scanner in to the computer and click the play button. If you notice some text happening and a progress bar will show on your screen, this means your scanner has begun the upgrade.
Please note if your scanner does not begin the upgrade process, click the stop button and move your scanner into a different USB port on your computer. When you see that the upgrade has “Passed”, you can click stop, unplug your scanner, and close out of the program. At this time, you can power your scanner on.
Once your scanner is powered on, you should notice that the display of the scanner should look different. If this is the case, that means your scanner is now on Version 2! However, the process is not complete. Now we will calibrate the scanner that way the scanner will read the surface of a bowling ball accurately.
You will need to open the GQC6 program. This should be an icon that you saved on your desktop. After you open this, go ahead and plug your scanner back in.
For calibrating the scanner, you will need to take the calibration plate off of the scanner and look inside the plate. You will see a sticker towards the bottom of the inside of the plate. Once you locate that sticker, look for the “60°:”. The number after that 60° is what we will need. For example, mine says 60°:96 meaning I will make note of that 96. Please make note of whatever that number is and use that number if it is different from the screenshots. Remember to put the calibration plate back on after getting the calibration numbers.
With the scanner plugged in and turned on. Click “Instrument” then “Calibrate” and finally click “Calibrate Instrument”. You should notice that the 60° box will not match your calibration plate sticker.
Now we will modify the calibration plate to make sure the scanner gets calibrated correctly. Click “Instrument” then “Modify Calibrate Plate Parameter.” From there you will put the number from your calibration plate next to the 60° box and then click “Modify Calibration Parameters.”
Now, you will go back up to “Instrument” then click “Calibrate” again to recalibrate the scanner. You should get the correct reading to match your plate. To make sure your scanner is fully calibrated and good to go, you can click the button with a letter G in it. This will have the scanner read the plate. If you see the 60° value match the calibration plate for the most part, you are done! If not, repeat the calibration steps from above.
If you would like to change the time on your scanner, you can click “Instrument” then “Other Setting”. Finally, click the “Set Date/Time” button and push the button on the side of your scanner. This will set the time on your scanner to whatever time it is on your computer.
If you have any questions with the process of this, please email help@ctdbowling.com.

The TruCut ½ HP Bowling Ball Spinner and Surfacing System is the most complete way to maintain and alter the performance of your equipment.
The Bowling Ball Spinner may be the most important accessory to have in order to maintain or alter your bowling balls performance. Sanding or polishing a bowling ball is the number one way to change a bowler's ball reaction. Creating the Difference has been working on developing a bowling ball spinner for the last 3 years. We looked at some different concepts and prototypes that were good. But, there was one major hurdle that became difficult to overcome, that was the cost. The cost to develop and build something that already exists and wasn't going to appreciably get better didn't make a lot of sense. The hard fact is bowling ball spinners contain expensive parts and most of that cost is in the tooling. They are also heavy, which makes them less than ideal to ship. So we decided to work with Innovative Bowling and use their ½ horse power ball spinner as the base to start with. We slightly modified it for added versatility, and added some accessories and made it a complete package.
The Ball Cup Addition
Through using the ball spinner we noticed that there was not a good spot to set a ball on. This is useful for setting up to use the spinner or resting it on while you are changing pads. This issue is the case with most every other personal ball spinner available. So we added a ball cup on top of the motor. This is not groundbreaking by any means. However it is more of a small refinement that improves the product.
IMPORTANT NOTE
DO NOT LEAVE A BALL ON THE BALL CUP WHILE THE BALL SPINNER IS IN OPERATION.
The TruCut ½ HP Ball Spinner features a single speed motor that rotates the ball 475 RPM's in a clockwise direction. It also has a low vibration aluminum and nylon bowl components to hold the ball during rotation. It has an in-line on and off switch that is easy to use. This product comes with a 5 year limited warranty on parts and the motor.
TruCut Conditioner
This is an absolute must have accessory. It doubles the life of the TruCut sanding pads and provides more consistent cutting.
By properly using TruCut conditioner with this system. You can reduce the need to use an external tub to catch the splatter left behind from using water with a ball spinner. Click here to watch a video on how to sand a ball without all the debris flying everywhere.
The TruCut Surfacing System can be used for light surfacing touch ups on bowling balls. All the way up to pro shop quality full resurfacing jobs when needed. It works great on any coverstock material used in bowling, and you can polish any bowling ball including the extremely hard to polish Purple Hammer.
Click here to watch a video on how to properly fully resurface a bowling ball.
How to properly sand a bowling ball with the TruCut Bowling Ball Spinner
NOTE: Sand each side of the ball equally to make sure the bowling ball stays round.
When sanding your bowling ball, DO NOT USE TRUCUT SANDING PADS THE SAME WAY YOU WOULD USE A ABRALON OR SIAAIR PAD. TruCut Sanding Pads will cut faster and should be used half of the time as other sanding pads. We recommend touching up your bowling ball every 3-6 games to keep the surface on your ball consistent.
The chart below shows what the various types of sanding pads are labeled vs what they actually cut the bowling ball at.

The CtD Surface Scanner is designed to quickly show you the grit on your bowling ball. You can take a scan in as little as 0.5 sec. The device will show up to the last 3 measurements and will count as it scans. It will automatically calibrate the device when the calibration plate is on the device and it is powered up.
PREPARING YOUR SCANNER FOR USE
The CtD Surface Scanner V2 offers the widest range of surface grit detection in the industry. The device will measure the following grits on all types of bowling ball coverstocks.
<500 Less than 500 grit
500
1000
1500
2000
3000
4000

Stable (4700) - The grit a ball will end up at; aka Lane Shined
5000
5500
6000
6500
>6500 Greater than 6500 grit
For best results scan the ball in 3 different areas. It is possible that you will see variation in the surface readings. If this occurs, continue scanning the ball 3 more times and take the average value. This will give you a great idea of the surface of the ball.
We recommend taking the base plate off and storing the device back in the case for long term storage.
What differences are there between the V1 and V2 Scanners?
The most noticeable difference between the two scanners by looking at them is the V2 scanner is wrapped in a different colored shell with the Creating the Difference logo next to the screen. When you turn the scanner on, we updated the user interface color to be green instead of blue. But, the biggest difference in the two scanners is the V2 scanner has a much wider range of scannable grits.

Here is an advanced tip.
Creating the Difference is the leader in bowling ball surface technology. With its TruCut Product Line including the collaborative Turtle Wax Hand Applied Polish, CtD has continued to develop accessory products for bowling. CtD pioneered the TruCut sanding pad; which is a sanding pad made for bowling balls that cuts the ball at the grit written on the pad. Now, CtD has added a new tool in measuring the surface of a bowling ball: the new CtD Bowling Ball Surface Scanner v1.
This surface scanner takes glossmeter technology and has adapted it to fit the specific needs of bowling ball surface measurement. A glossmeter is an instrument which is used to measure specular reflection gloss of a surface. Gloss is determined by projecting a beam of light at a fixed intensity and angle onto a surface and measuring the amount of reflected light at an equal but opposite angle. This creates a great estimate of the finish of the bowling ball extremely fast, without being destructive. There is no change to the surface of the bowling ball by using this device. CtD partnered with a global leader in gloss meter technology to develop this new product. The CtD Bowling Ball Surface Scanner v1 works on nearly all bowling ball materials and surfaces. There are two exceptions to this rule: white colored bowling balls and clear bowling balls will not read properly in most cases. White causes too much reflection for the device to "see" it clearly. Clear doesn't allow for the light to reflect back enough into the device. This product works exceptionally well for more than 98% of the balls on the market. There are other technologies that would solve this problem but they are 4 times the price and not nearly as easy to use.
The CtD Ball Surface Scanner v1 is a fast and easy solution to the difficult problem of knowing what surface is actually on your bowling ball.
The hard truth is bowling balls change surface through use. Depending on the starting grit it can change very fast. Watch this video to learn more.
Sanded bowling balls go up in surface; while polished bowling balls go down. A bowling ball will typically stop changing surface once it reaches 4700 grit. We call this grit STABLE on the scanner. This change is commonly called lane shine. CLICK here if you want to learn more about the real reason your bowling ball changes.
Here are some examples of bowling balls that went from 1000 grit Trucut to Stable and how long it took for them to reach that point.
Bowling ball surface is the most important aspect to overall performance. This video teaches about the four performance factors in ball motion: CLICK HERE
Bowling Ball Surface is also the least measured and understood of these factors. This is primarily because there are only a few devices to measure surface. Most of the current options available are either expensive, require extra software and setup or they are made for pro shops and not consumers. The CtD Bowling Ball Surface Scanner v1 is designed to solve all of these issues. It can be used so quickly, that it works great for checking the surface of your ball in between frames, if needed. It also works well in a pro shop to help customers understand their equipment better. The best part is that it is less than half the price of other scanners. It sells for $450.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What about multiple colored bowling balls?
The device works great on every color except white, like the Hammer Black Widow Ghost.
Does it read pearl balls?
Yes, it will read the surface on pearl bowling balls.
Why would a consumer need a Bowling Ball Surface Scanner?
Ever struggle with transition? What if you knew how quickly your bowling ball was changing and could have a game plan to address it before it started happening?
Here is a common situation:
Let's say you go to league and scan your bowling ball to know what the surface is. Let's say you used a 2000 grit TruCut sanding pad and it reads 2000 grit on the scanner. Now, every 5 frames you grab your ball and quickly scan the surface. If you strike, just wait and grab it from the ball return, take it back to your settee area, scan it and bring it back to the rack on your next turn. You may notice the ball is still 2000 grit after 5 frames but 3000 grit at the end of game one. Maybe you bowled normal to above average in the first game. The second game, your ball may be at 4000 after 5 frames and 4500 or even Stable (4700) by the end of the game. Now this game, you may have bowled below average because of the "transition." This happens often. Of course, you adjust and in game 3, your ball is stable both at the 5th frame and end of the game. Because of the adjustment, you bowled well again.
Knowing that information, here is the game plan for next week:
You will take 2 balls that are similar. They don't have to be the exact same ball or even the same company. You just want the 2 balls you feel are closest in performance. You will sand them both to 2000 grit. This time you already know your surface is changing fast. So in the 10th frame of game 1, preferably the last ball (fill ball shot), you switch to the other ball that has 2000 grit on it. This will minimize the impact your bowling ball surface change has on game two and the transition. Now you will still have the lanes changing but you don't have the lanes and your bowling ball surface changing together. The two things changing together is what makes the transition hard to read. Hopefully now, you bowl better game two and since your ball is already approaching stable, you should be fine for game three.
This strategy can work for any game once you know what your surface is. The goal is to minimize the variables that you cannot control. The scanner helps you understand more about surface and knowledge is power.
Ever go to a tournament with 6 balls and wonder why you don't have a good ball reaction with any ball?
Check the surfaces of each of them to make sure they are different. If they are the same then you really brought 6 of the same ball that are different colors, Lol.
The CtD Surface Scanner v1 will measure the following grits on all types of bowling ball coverstocks
<500 Less than 500 grit.
1000
1500
2000
3000
4000
4500
Stable (4700) - The grit a ball will end up at; aka Lane Shined
5000
>5500 Greater than 5500 grit
This range is wide enough to help the bowler understand the importance of knowing where their ball surface. Note: if you use non TruCut Sanding pads, the number you get from the scanner may shock you. The competition sanding pads tend to cut significantly higher than TruCut and do not reflect the grit number left on the bowling ball.
Here is a list of different sanding pads and the grits they left on the ball during our extensive testing over the past 4 years:
How do I use the CtD Bowling Ball Surface Scanner v1?
Here are the steps to begin checking your bowling ball
Step 1: Remove the surface scanner from the case.
Step 2: Remove the calibration plate from the scanner.
Step 3: Remove the white paper from the calibration plate.
Step 4: Place the scanner back on the calibration plate and click it in place.
Step 5: Push the power button until the device turns on and let it calibrate.
Step 6: Pull it from the calibration plate.
Step 7: Loosen the screws on the locking mechanism to allow the aluminum pieces to sit slightly recessed behind the blue plastic.
Step 8: Align the blue plate with the indentations on the scanner.
Step 9: Screw the aluminum bracket into the indentations on the scanner to make sure the hole in the bottom of the device matches up to the hole in the blue plate.
Step 10: Place the scanner on the ball and push the power button.
You will hear a beep each time the device scans. A number will display at the top telling you the surface in the scanned area. As you continue to scan, the screen will show the last 3 scans at all times. After three scans, any new scans will show up in yellow at the bottom of the screen. If it says stable, that means that the surface is at a spot where it should not change through bowling.
You only need to calibrate every 100 scans. To calibrate, make sure the attachment plate is removed from the scanner and repeat steps 3-9. To power off, push and hold the power button.
How many scans should I take?
You can get a good idea of the surface from 3 quick scans.
What if the numbers are different?
If you get different numbers, scan 3 additional times and take the average. The scanner looks at a small part of the ball. There can be a lot of variation in bowling balls from use. You may also be surprised how many bowling balls you have that are Stable (4700). This is a reflection of not adjusting the surface of a bowling ball.
Will the scanner work on urethane balls?
The CtD Surface Scanner v1 will work on any bowling ball coverstocks or material.
How often should I scan my ball?
We recommend scanning your ball every 5 frames or between 5 and 10 throws initially. This will allow you to begin to understand the time it takes for your surface to change. After you have a better idea on the actual change, you can begin scanning after every game as needed. Remember not to disturb or slow down the process of bowling. People may wonder what you are doing to your bowling ball so it's best to let them know ahead of time. In doing so, you may make a new friend.
Warning
Do not use the CtD Surface Scanner v1 on anything other than a bowling ball.
Do not look into the hole on the bottom of the CtD Surface Scanner v1 while pressing the scan button. This can be harmful to your eyes.
Warranty
The CtD Bowling Ball Surface Scanner v1 comes with a one year warranty for manufacturing materials and defects. You can purchase an additional parts and labor warranty for $199.
